We’re so excited to introduce our newest guest blogger, Jen Lucas, of Sacred Tones Healing Studio! Jen is going to give us all the deets on Sound Therapy. You’ve seen the Sound Bath invites come through your inbox, but you haven’t taken the leap yet? We’ll let Jen take it from here…
If you’ve ever found yourself feeling stressed, scattered, or stuck, your body might not need more doing. It might just need more listening. That’s where Sound Therapy comes in.
Hi, I’m Jen Lucas, founder of Sacred Tones Healing Studio in Canonsburg, PA, and Sound Therapy Provider at Nemacolin Resort’s Holistic Healing Center. My path into this work began years ago when I lived in Southern California and found myself in a season of deep emotional challenge. I began attending sound healing sessions, and something in me shifted. I didn’t just feel better. I felt aligned. Seen. Reconnected.
At Sacred Tones, we believe that every person, every being, every piece of matter holds its own frequency. When your energy falls out of tune, so does your health, your emotions, and your sense of purpose. Sound therapy is how we recalibrate, and raise your vibration back to its natural, empowered state.
Let’s explore what Sound Therapy is all about, what to expect, and how it might just become your new favorite form of self-care.
What Exactly Is Sound Therapy?
Sound Therapy is based on the idea that everything in the universe (including your body) is in a constant state of vibration. When our internal rhythms fall out of balance (thanks to stress, trauma, or overstimulation), certain frequencies can help bring us back into alignment.
We don’t “fix” you in sound therapy. We resonate with you, offering a safe and nurturing vibrational space for your body and nervous system to remember what balance feels like.
Common instruments used in Sound Therapy include:
● Tuning Forks. Applied directly to the body or around the energy field to stimulate healing and balance
● Crystal Singing Bowls. Create pure tones that resonate with the body’s chakras and energy centers
● Gongs and Chimes. Offer a full-body vibrational experience that releases tension and invites deep rest
● Drums and Rattles. Used for grounding, energy clearing, and shamanic journeys
Sound Therapy sessions can be one-on-one or in group settings (like sound baths), and each experience is completely unique to your energy and needs that day.
How Does It Work?
When sound enters the body, it doesn’t just stay at your ears. Vibrations move through the water in your tissues, your cells, and your energy field. Research shows that sound can:
● Reduce stress and anxiety by regulating cortisol levels
● Stimulate the vagus nerve to activate the parasympathetic “rest and digest” response
● Improve sleep quality and reduce symptoms of depression
● Help reduce chronic pain and muscle tension
One of the most beautiful things about Sound Therapy is that it doesn’t require effort from you. You don’t have to talk, relive anything, or push through blocks. All you have to do is relax, receive, and listen.
What Happens During a Session?
Every practitioner is different, but here’s what you can typically expect from a private Sound Therapy session:
Setting Intentions. We begin by discussing how you’re feeling physically, mentally, and emotionally, and what you’d like support with
Sound Healing Begins. You lie fully clothed on a massage table, and I use a combination of instruments either around your body or directly on the body depending on your needs
Deep Rest. Many clients enter a meditative or dreamlike state, and some even fall asleep
Gentle Integration. After the session, we take a few moments to check in, share insights, and allow the nervous system to fully integrate
What Does It Feel Like?
Clients often describe the experience as dreamy, floating, or “like being wrapped in a sound cocoon”. Some feel energy moving through their bodies; others simply enjoy deep rest. There is no right or wrong way to experience it. Your body will receive what it needs.
Many people notice:
● Better sleep that night
● A sense of clarity or emotional release
● Reduced physical tension
● Feeling more connected to themselves and their intuition
Is Sound Therapy Right for You?
✅ You crave relaxation and want to try something deeply nourishing
✅ You’re feeling energetically or emotionally “off”
✅ You’re curious about vibrational healing but don’t know where to start
✅ You want a holistic approach to stress, sleep, or anxiety
✅ You simply want to feel better in your body
Sound Therapy is gentle enough for almost everyone, but it’s always a good idea to check with your doctor if you have sound sensitivity, seizure disorders, or metal implants like pacemakers.
Sound is one of the most ancient and intuitive forms of healing we have. If you’ve been searching for a gentle yet powerful way to reconnect with yourself, Sound Therapy might be exactly what your body and spirit are calling for.
Interested in trying a session or have questions? I’d love to hear from you.
